Day 5
May 25th, 2010 12:30 PM

I just got a call from a builder and he wanted to buy my lot!  Whew, that was a close one.  I eagerly told him that the lot was already spoken for and that I was going to be the one building on it.  I need to get out there and take the sign down today so nobody else asks about it.  Now if they want to buy it before I move in I would gladly sell it for $225,000!

Started looking at pictures online for the front appearance and just can't find anything that I like.  I think I will have to go drive around with a camera and take pics of houses that have nice curb appeal.  I think the look of the house from the street is very important for re-sale value.  We've all seen houses that are ugly and have thought "what the heck were they thinking!"  I'll find some nice ones and post them soon.

Going to Big Red Keno tonight for volleyball.  It's a fun place and there's always a good crowd.  Good food too!  Check them out at the link below:

Day 4
May 24th, 2010 10:29 AM

It's Day 4 and we are anxiously awaiting for our preliminary blue prints so we can check out the layout of our home.  There we will go over things such as position of windows and doors, the front elevation or "look" of the house, the design of the rooms, etc.  We will also do some brainstorming to see if there are any areas of the home that we want to rearrange to make adjustments to any of the rooms.  Once that is done the building can send the prints to the architect for the final draft.  This is important so the final draft can get submitted to the City in order to get a building permit.  Once all that is complete, probably 3 weeks from now, then they start to dig!  Woohoo!

I went to the horse races yesterday and blew $10.00!  It was fun and overall cheap entertainment.  Check them out at the following link:

Day 2 - Building My House
May 22nd, 2010 2:51 PM

It's day 2 and there's not much to report.  We have been looking at lots of websites to get ideas for kitchen cabinets and counters.  I went to my friends house yesterday to check out his newly finished basement.  He built the same basic floor plan as what we are building.  Not too much else going on with the house right now.

I want to let you know about a fun event in Lincoln tonight - the rolley derby!  I do all their announcing and will be there calling the shots this evening.  Check them out at www.NoCoastDerbyGirls.com.  Hope to see you there!

Building My House
May 21st, 2010 3:02 PM

Well, it's day one and we just signed the contract to build a new house.  During the course of this process I will use this format to detail all the experiences, good and bad, that we go through during the building process.  Hopefully this will help people that are considering building a new home.  I will be your guinea pig!

We met with the builder, Brandon Crounse of Crounse Homes, Inc., to go over the specs and pricing of everything we want.  We still have some decisions to make, mainly whether or not to finish the basement.  My guess is we will go ahead and do it as it only adds about $110 to our monthly payment.  As for the house, it's a 1300 sq ft, 1 story home on a walkout lot in South Lincoln.  I've already experienced my first disappointment - it's a corner lot and on street is a little busier than the other so we wanted to have it face the less busy street.  Unfortunately I was told that if we did that, there would not be room for a deck!  It's ok though, because the busy street isn't that busy.

Next up is to meet with the builder to go over the blue prints rough draft.  We will cover things such as making sure the walls, doors, windows, etc. in the right place.

I'm excited!  Can't wait to pick out flooring, cabinets, light fixtures and the rest!  I hope you stay with me while I build!  Who am I kidding, I just hope that somebody actually reads this!

By the way, ate a great sushi restaurant this week in South Lincoln.  It's called Fuji Sushi and Grill.  The service and food was awesome!  Here's a link to their Facebook page.
